Asja Trost (SI)
Asja Trost, born in 1990 in Ljubljana, graduated in digital design in Berlin, where she worked until 2016, and later completed her MA at the Academy of Arts in Nova Gorica under the mentorship of Jasna Hribernik and Miha Colner. In her MA thesis she dealt with the production of contemporary art, with a focus on institutionalised art form and activism. Her work uses a combination of analogue and digital media, using animation, mapping and experimental film to represent different social situations that affect each one of us. As a director and animator, she has worked on Catican (2017), tHE mARRY jESUS gALAXY (2017), A Very Short Film (2018) and Thou Art Thyself (2020). All her films have been screened at several Slovenian and international festivals (Slovenian Film Festival, Kino Otok, Animateka, Stoptrik). In 2018, tHE mARRY jESUS gALAXY, which she created together with Mery Gobec, Sandra Jovanovska and Ines Sambas, was selected for the VAF New Talents section in the Czech Republic. As a third assistant director she worked on the feature film Rudar (2017), directed by Hanna AW Slak, and as a video assistant and video artist she has worked in several theatres (Staatsoper Berlin, Maxim Gorki Theater, SNG NG). She has animated several music videos and commercials, and has participated in several group exhibitions with video installations. In 2018, she had her first solo exhibition at Carinarnica in Nova Gorica. Since 2016 she has been working internationally, without a permanent address, and currently lives in Ljubljana.
